Assessing Lake Water Quality from Remote Sensing
The focus of this project was to develop a methodology for using Landsat imagery to map the lake water clarity of water bodies in the north eastern United States, starting with New York state as a testing area, and later branching out to other states. The objective was to develop a lake water clarity methodology that can be applied to the NE region as a way to respond to EPA requirements for assessing lake water quality.
The project was conducted in partnership with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and the University of Minnesota
and was presented at the annual NYSGIS Conference in Lake Placid, NY.
