GIS, Site Analysis & Mapping
LiDAR Demonstration Project
This project began with the intent of demonstrating techniques for processing LiDAR data for local government applications. Examples include generating three dimensional surfaces from ESRI multi-point and terrain datasets, extracting features from LiDAR, and merging data from multiple collections into one seamless surface. In addition, IAGT has developed expertise in conducting FEMA-standard Quality Control and Accuracy Assessment as an independent reviewer of LiDAR collections. FEMA has been a primary sponsor of LiDAR collections in NYS, primarily through a partnership with the NYSDEC Floodplain Mapping Program. Due to this partnership, IAGT has been able to support the contracting and collection of large amounts of LiDAR data in NY and been available to work closely with counties and other municipalities that are positioned to benefit from this high resolution data and related technologies. IAGT has built strong relationships with local governments in New York based on the need to process and integrate LiDAR data into enterprise GIS programs.
Counties that IAGT has worked with on LiDAR projects include:
- Cayuga County
-
Ontario County
-
Chemung County
-
Cortland County
-
Ulster County
-
Schenectady County
-
Monroe County
-
Schoharie County
-
Onondaga County
IAGT has also been able to provide unique three dimensional visualization capabilities to Counties and municipalities through the use of Skyline software. A demonstration of how this three dimensional visualization technology works can be seen at www.iagt.org/terrain.
