Tech Support:The Finger Lakes Decision Support System (FLDSS) prototype was developed by the Institute for the Application of Geospatial Technology. It was born from the idea that the Finger Lakes region could benefit from an array of technological tools that could be applied to help make wise decisions in the growth of the region and the use of its resources. Built on the VMOC™ core technology, the FLDSS brings together and integrates a number of state of the art technologies including: geographic information systems, aerial imagery and other types of remotely sensed data, interactive 3D visualizations, Internet deployment and near real time data. The technical components of the system were developed by a large number of people, working on tasks including data development, modeling, geospatial processing, coding and web site design and construction. The system is considered to be a working prototype and, as such, will continue to be in "development" for some time to come. Unique in this process however is the utilization of ideas and comments about the FLDSS from a growing base of evaluation sites. As a result, technical support questions are also an opportunity for the FLDSS development team to learn what works, what doesn't and what applications and tasks are best addressed using the FLDSS technology.
