Finger Lakes Decision Support System
FLDSS:
The
Finger Lakes Decision Support System (FLDSS) is a web-based, geospatial
visualization environment that combines photo-realistic imagery
with terrain information. Features of the FLDSS include the integration
of traditional 2D GIS data and related attribute information, 3D
interactive visualization, access to near real-time monitoring
resources, links to textual or tabular data sources, and a fully
interactive user interface. The graphical interface enables managers
to navigate through and around their area, and access and interpret
a common set of relevant geospatial data.
A main goal of this project is to enable more effective communication
and collaboration among managers and stakeholders in multiple cross-jurisdictional
areas including all levels of government. By providing a common,
internet-based utility, it is hoped that the system will enable
managers to work more effectively together to support improved
managerial decision making.
The preliminary project focus is the Owasco Lake Watershed, located
in the Finger Lakes Region of Upstate New York. The Owasco Lake
Watershed encompasses 208 square miles surrounding Owasco Lake,
and includes portions of Cayuga, Onondaga and Tompkins Counties.
The FLDSS vision includes expansion of the project to encompass the
entire Finger Lakes Region, roughly described as the area between
the cities of Rochester and Syracuse and extending from the shore
of Lake Ontario in the north to the city of Elmira in the south.
