GIS Summer 2006 College Experience
for High School Seniors

GIS—Geographic Information Systems—is more than a leading-edge field of study. It's an exciting technology with applications from environmental sciences to business, and resource management to criminal justice.

Interested in where it could take you?

Spend five days with us at Cayuga Community College this summer, and learn about GIS by actually using the technology. You'll learn to operate a handheld GPS unit. You’ll use specialized software to convert data into layers of colorful and informative maps that illustrate your world in meaningful ways. You'll take part in a team project—and earn a college credit!

You project will be a hands-on application of GIS in one of three areas:

  • Urban Forestry
  • Public Safety
  • Historical Geography

You'll learn to operate a handheld GPS unit—and when the program is over, the unit is yours to keep!
