It is possible to conceptualize the Institute's work as the re-bundling of data and technology. Imagined on a continuum, at one end there is the data and technology provided by NASA and other sources. On the other end there is the wisest possible use of this new knowledge. In between, with GIS software, data may be fused and analyzed. New knowledge that results can then be reconfigured so that it can be recorded on DVDs, CDs, or tapes; or it can be delivered via wide area network capacities, such as the Internet. The recipients of this newly generated knowledge are members of any one of the three target groups: ".gov," ".edu" or ".com."
